std::shared_ptr and std::unique_ptr are pretty nice, at least compared to not having them in C++. But saying they fix all problems is silly.

To the extent this is true for any codebase, it's only because of copying *everywhere*. As soon as you try to optimize that, back to memory-safety nightmares. Also, I've been hearing this "modern C++ is infinitely better than old C++" BS for twenty years now.
