Ah, good point. Yes a GIL makes it pretty easy, I suppose, and Haskell knows where the unsafe/IO bits are so it could just serialise those wrt. fork.

The only Haskell fork() I can see, in the unix package, "comes with a giant warning" about other threads: http://hackage.haskell.org/package/unix-2.7.2.2/docs/System-Posix-Process.html#v:forkProcess …. It exists but it's not particularly safe or encouraged.
