This is the epitome of annoying SF bashing. It's fine if you don't like the Bay Area, but only a VC trying too hard to be trendy could come to the conclusion that it's some kind of hellhole. https://www.nationalreview.com/2019/04/san-francisco-decline-failed-government-policies/ …

Which specific criticisms in that article did you find unconvincing? They seem pretty mainstream and well-supported to me.

The idea that there are no artists here (my friends beg to differ!), for one. CCA is moving to SF *from* Oakland, in fact. That there's no music scene, for another.

The idea that there are used syringes everywhere. Lazy stereotype. I live in Dogpatch and I can't remember the last time I saw one.

"Cold demonic stare" used to describe the mentally ill? Really?

The article is very confused as to whether it values nostalgia for the past or not. In my opinion, the "SF sucks now" crowd, including the author, is much of *why* we have this NIMBYism problem the author supposedly decries.

I read it as mostly being about the anti-development policies of SF planning board, not nostalgia for an older time in SF (I lived in SF more than 10 years ago and don’t think it was much better then).

Agreed regarding that; I'm as YIMBY as they come and Peskin and the rest are awful. But you can make that point without all the clickbait.
