Which specific criticisms in that article did you find unconvincing? They seem pretty mainstream and well-supported to me.

The idea that there are no artists here (my friends beg to differ!), for one. CCA is moving to SF *from* Oakland, in fact. That there's no music scene, for another.

I’ll never defend a National Review article, they’re absolutely trash people, but you have to be blind to not see the problems SF has. I live in SF and love, but we’re doing a shitty job of housing the homeless and middle class, and every year the city feels dirtier and less safe

We have a lot of problems, sure, but SF is still a very nice place to live.

Not a great article but sf is the dirtiest city I’ve been to in America and has laughably bad transit and public education. Still like living here though :)

Not for me (I've been to Gary, Indiana). Also transit in SF is a dream compared to where I grew up (central Texas).
