Try overall empirical measurement rather than picking cases, though.

When I measured Linux binaries they usually ended up about the same size. Which makes sense—neither ISA is really space-optimized.

what causes the no-lea constraint?

It can't use a negative scale for the offset, only 1, 2, 4, or 8. You can often arrange the earlier computation so that it's pre-negated, however.
