I disagree with one assertion in there: “If I was writing a graphics library, I would convert floats to fixed-point precision as soon as possible….” Fixed point seems attractive but doesn’t really solve precision problems. It’s best to just make your algorithms resilient.

Pathfinder uses floating point everywhere and avoids fragile algorithms vulnerable to FP error. It has some precision bugs still, but I don’t think they’d be improved if I switched to fixed point.
