The idea of a “paint thread” that’s isolated enough from the “compositor thread” so as to never jank scrolling in the latter is fundamentally at odds with the way the GPU FIFO works. (Assuming the paint thread uses the GPU.)

That requries a copy. There is some path in windows that will do the copy for you but details of how to access it is hazy (it's how e.g. a Surface Book can use a discrete GPU for rendering, but still output to the monitor which is connected to the integrated GPU).

But luckily that copy shouldn't stall the discrete GPU at least!
