The amount of effort to get from zero to Hello World is ridiculous in native toolkits. Also doing good Unicode/typography and a number of other things is just *so much easier* on the web.

Slack is another example. It’s native app on Windows did not support spellcheck in multiple languages at least 6 months ago. In the browser that comes for free.

+ the JS mess won, I think would have won even w/o MS monopoly abuse/under-regulation/market failure. MS, reeling from antitrust case & pain of standards mess, tried going back to good ol' lock-in: Windows Vista. How'd that work out? Missed mobile too; iPhone1 app model was web.
