What is the problem with a timeout for script load to eventually display? A sync script would have a longer timeout instead. The benefit here is that font matching can trigger early (would be blocked by sync script) leading to faster load times.

AMP is awful. Structured data & Schema stuff makes sense but AMP is a net negative for the web.
