NodeId's aren't used that much anymore. this approach would be interesting for DefId (which types also contain) though!

I've definitely thought about this for `DefId`. Actually I had planned to make a `DefId` be literally a cryptographic hash of its contents, I don't know that I had considered *random* hashes assigned on creation. The former persists across incremental sessions, which is nice.
