Doesn’t the diff need to be calculated anyways to figure out what updates need to be applied to the DOM’s state? Though, if they just blow away the existing structure, you’ve got a great point.

maybe because there's no native hashing function in JS so complexity/speed of diff is the same, without collisions.

Not sure how that works. Don’t they use some simple merge sort scheme where diffing is the natural way to reconcile changes ?
