It’s 2018 and there is still no way that I can see to bind a Pixmap to a GPU texture without using Xlib (not XCB—Xlib).
All I see is https://github.com/chadversary/gl-examples/blob/master/src/x11-egl/create-x-egl-gles2-surface.cpp … which still uses <Xlib-xcb.h>

that just needs it for XOpenDisplay, no? I'm not sure how you could avoid that if you're running on an X server in the first place
