When I started I would just write tiny throwaway scripts in Perl and not think twice about it. Now my thought process is: “Perl” “Perl’s outdated, I should use JS instead” “I don’t want to deal with NPM, let’s do Rust” “I don’t want to deal with Cargo” “Uh…Ruby?”

I’m not criticizing Rust, just saying that I don’t like writing one-off throwaway scripts in it.

i'm new to rust, but couldn't you `rustc http://foo.rs ` for this purpose?

Late to the thread, but is `cargo new` not enough? Usually I just `cargo new foo && cd foo && cargo run` and everything is up and going!
