Another unpopular opinion: Don’t blame Linux for overcommit. Blame Unix for the fork/exec model.

There are modern workarounds like vfork and posix_spawn, but fork/exec is so ingrained into Unix it can’t really be changed without breaking programs, and the kernel devs understandably don’t want to do that.
