Yes, as mentioned, the only thing <> has going for it is familiarity. And as long as familiarity wins over all the inconsistency (::<>) and the complexity it introduces (where) it will sadly stay that way. Same with ReasonML reintroducing ; to make it familiar to JavaScript devs.
