Your definition of racism aligns with what I've learned from listening to thoughtful people, especially those who experience racism, e.g. http://www.dismantlingracism.org/racism-defined.html … Unfortunately, while explaining this to oomf, Webster's definition undermined me.
Regrettably, the problematic definition you cite (treating people differently based on race, period) is the one in the *dictionary*. I could be wrong, but this seems like it's connected to why racism (as we and many POC define it) is so hard to dismantle.
It's hard to dismantle racism (as defined in http://www.dismantlingracism.org/racism-defined.html … ) if the dominant definition of that word ("racism") in what the power structure considers an authoritative source, isn't even on the same page with what we are talking about.
