    Very cool puzzle!

    The names of 100 prisoners are put in 100 boxes. One at a time, privately, each prisoner opens and closes 50 boxes. They are set free if *everyone* finds their own name. Strategy can be discussed beforehand, but otherwise there's no communication. What's the best strategy? 1/23

    My wife and I never baby talk to our kids. We use language befitting an elected official. My daughter is 5 and can already filibuster her way out of dinner. Adults at family gatherings are shocked at how she can always provide a response without actually answering the question.

    My wife and I never baby talk to our kids. We use full sentences and a wide vocabulary including complex words. My son is 3 and can carry a full conversation. Adults at family gatherings are shocked at his social aptitude. My daughter isn’t even 2 and she uses 4-syllable words.

    the sutton & barto book does call out these differences, but i don't think it's stated explicitly enough in the experimental sections of the papers i read. worth keeping mind as you run your experiments!

    if your theory/algorithm depends on the absolute and/or relative differences of value functions, this choice can have a drastic effect! here's a puddle-world-like environment where we see the differences between non-goal states wash out when we make the goal state absorbing.

    To Absorb, or Not To Absorb? That is the Question for goal-directed environments. Should goal-states be like any other state, or should they "absorb", making env "episodic"? A subtle, but important difference. Just look at V* differences (for discounted infinite-horizon)!

    why i love GridWorld experiments: - finish very quickly - super useful for testing out theoretical results - give great insights into what your algo. is doing - can make them as large as you like (even continuous!) - easy to generate visualizations - they remind me of my PhD days
