Writing's a rollercoaster, y'all. Publication day for 's Merfolk anthology including my 500-word "The Mermaids of the Seaside Second-Run Cinema," a tribute to seeing scary movies at second-run theaters at the beach...with killer mermaids.

Any amateur could put razor blades inside . Or you had the occasional hippie wasting their stash on brats who’d never appreciate a good trip. But caramelizing and chocolate-covering last year’s children? THAT was The Confectioner’s holiday magic.

Recommendations for markets for ~3k word short story in "experimental" format (told via series of text message exchanges)? Wanna make sure I haven't missed somewhere that'd be a good fit...

Everyone laughed when Grandpa Ralph asked them to inscribe "Duck!" as his gravestone . But when the razor-winged "bat" swarm covered the town, those who read at graveside survived. (Though they did wonder what else Grandpa Ralph was right about...)

Steam hissed from the basement's pipes. A flashlight illuminated the dark, seeking the missing teen. Boy's mother blamed rock music, typical Panic. But the P.I. knew the kid wasn't possessed. That's the work HE'D been hired to finish after all.

Aunt Esme's latest get-rich-quick-scheme involves multi-level marketing. Like the Avon sales before, no one thinks it'll last. Mom still caves and buys a crate of those voodoo dolls that look like Dad. "Just in case. You never know," she says.

Last movie of the night for is A Quiet Place on Paramount+ which I’d somehow never seen. The opening is a gut punch, but the rest felt more solid B/B- territory (not that there’s anything wrong with that!)

In this thread I judge which slasher’s ass I could kick: #1 Ghostface - Off rip, Skeet Ulrich Ghostface is getting washed. Completely. Matthew Lillard, however, I have concerns. Mans is 6’4 and built like a total unit, but the robes mess with his agility and in the end I’ll win

movie catch-up continues with Vivarium on Prime. Sometimes you just need a bleak as fuck black comedy horror where everyone’s doomed from the start and you’re watching the inevitable play out.

More viewing. This time it’s Crawl on Hulu-Plus. This one did exactly what I wanted and I dug it as result. I’ve always liked Aja’s work (really dug his Hills Have Eyes remake) and this one gives man-eating gators in Florida just the way you’d want it.

Check out this beautiful cover for The Dire Circle from . The anthology includes a tale by yours truly, holding it down for my fellow Scorpios with its dark(er) counterpart...The Poisoned Dart. Cosmic horror and rural crime in one nasty package.
