On November 14th 2019, 1200+ neuroscientists petitioned the Society for Neuroscience leadership to address the and our community’s role in responding. We are still looking waiting for a promised response and plan of action from SfN.

From us to you: something to discuss instead of politics at your Thanksgiving dinner. A new theory of planning from , which is chock full of ideas and implications and connections and solutions to problems I hadn't actually realized were problems.

How we differ in learning from experience shapes how we develop different values, beliefs and behaviours. See our paper lead by Daniel Schad examining a neural and computational basis for this .

What great advice! i would add that it is your job to foster the careers of your graduates and postdocs. Choose the ones who have ideas, especially if the are different from your own.

(1/3) “How do I recruit grad students?” is a question I’ve been asking myself and colleagues a lot lately. We decided that there should be a psych grad school wiki just like there is for jobs. So without further ado…

Do you get excited by the idea of using innovative techniques to study how human minds connect during ? Please get in touch as I'll be recruiting students/postdocs to start Fall 2020 in my new lab at [RT's appreciated]

Thrilled to share our preprint from my PhD work. We show how concurrent task-sets can be implemented from unsupervised Hebbian plasticity in a network model, and how the mechanism is validated by behavioral performance, reaction times, and neural data.

Are higher cortical areas more plastic? It turns out not to be the case: there is a non-monotonic relationship, such that plasticity decreases from early to mid-level visual cortex, and then increases further of the visual hierarchy.. & Beckmann

Can we extract some "meaningful" and "disentangled" characteristics of individuals by just letting them play an n-armed bandit game?

My latest preprint with : a transparent and simple model of learning under volatility. Compared with the state of the art, the model is algorithmically simpler, computationally more accurate, and empirically more parsimonious.

The proposed method also improves parameter estimation accuracy over existing hierarchical model fitting methods. The code and a how-to-use manual here. its core statistical inference is variational, so way faster than sampling-based methods, such as Stan.

Our new work, hierarchical Bayesian inference. with @AmirDezfouli, Tom Heskes, Michael Frank, just came out. we tackle two major problems of existing methods: conservative bias towards simplistic models and sensitivity against outliers.
