Sneezed on the train on the way home, muttered in Mandarin, and got a seat all the way. Amazing.

Apparently wombats in fire effected areas are not only allowing other animals to take shelter in their deep, fire-resistant burrows but are actively herding fleeing animals into them. We’re seeing more leadership and empathy from these guys than the entire Federal government.

A while ago, I thought doing things in a clever way was cool. Now, I understand that simple is better than clever. Clever is mostly showing off.

One of the most helpful books I’ve read on being a manager is “Non-violent communication” - the Rosenberg book is good. I dislike the name NVC and it caused to me to be quite skeptical. But NVC is actually highly logical and should appeal to anyone w/ an eng/science background.

I'll say this out loud since no one does. I studied CS at college, it didn't make me a better programmer. Practising Programming makes you a better programmer, not studying it. If you're starting your ML Journey, trust me a "CS background" won't be as helpful as practising code

Do you use a VPN for privacy? Here's what you should know: –There's no way you or anyone else can tell if the VPN provider is selling your data. –If a VPN provider _doesn't_ sell your data, it will be outcompeted by those that do, and go out of business. It's a market for lemons.

To the Fly developer who just sent a "test" push notification to production: Don't sweat it. We've all been there.

A 4 year old child actually has a few hundred million years of experience, not 4. Their rapid learning/generalization is much less shocking/magical considering this fact.

Twitter is funding a small independent team of up to five open source architects, engineers, and designers to develop an open and decentralized standard for social media. The goal is for Twitter to ultimately be a client of this standard. 🧵

Things to look for in a code review: Code is... - Well designed - Readable by others - Doing what the author intended - No more complex than needed - Not degrading system code health - Commented with the why vs. what - Appropriately tested - Sufficiently documented

Sometimes non-native speakers self deprecate themselves on stage by making a joke about their accents. Believe or not, that's often the first time I realize they have a "non-standard" accent and I feel sad they might be feeling insecure about it.

Yesterday was interviewing a guy for software engineer role. He was clearly using that laptop where web camera is on the bottom of a screen in our video conference. Me: Do you have any experience with Linux He: Yes, I'm on Ubuntu at the moment Me: Oh, ok, passed
