        2. According to that @USMC release, Whelan's rank of "Private" (either a E-1 or E-2) was as of Feb. 29, 2008. That was just a bit more than a month after Whelan was Convicted at Special Court-Martial convened on Jan. 14, 2008.pic.twitter.com/CXiKqeOzlk

        3. However, the findings of Whelan's appeal of his Special Court-Martial conviction shows that he was sentenced to be reduced in rank from a E-6 Staff Sargent to E-4 Corporal. The date of that appeal court finding was 26 August 26, 2008. http://www.jag.navy.mil/courts/documents/archive/2008/WHELAN,%20P.N.%20200800152%20PCE.pdf …pic.twitter.com/3RlafVG3qs

        3. So how did Whelan go from a E-6 Staff Sergeant to either a E-1 Private or E-2 Private First Class at his discharge when his Special Court-Martial conviction shows that he was sentenced to be reduced in rank from a E-6 Staff Sergeant to E-4 Corporal?

      7. Lemon Slayer‏ @LemonSlayerUS 11h11 hours ago
        Replying to @LemonSlayerUS @PaulSonne and

        4. One way would be if Whelan faced further disciplinary action prior to his actual discharge. Could've had Non-Judicial Punishment (NJP), but even then there are rules about how far one can be reduced in rank via NJP.

        5. Whelan's Special Court-Martial conviction sentence was to be reduced in rank from a E-6 Staff Sergeant to E-4 Corporal on Jan. 14, 2008, but somehow he got reduced in rank to either E-1 Private or E-2 Private First Class by Feb. 29, 2008. Can't see an NJP reduction that fast.pic.twitter.com/9denXftpGy
