Why is academia not moving fast(er) to video conference? We travel way too much anyway, our travel is rarely essential, we sit in a room with colleagues from all over the world and with students. We should be a prime candidate for video conferencing as a great alternative. Views?

For that reason, I think a videoconference or talk is just marginally better than simply reading the papers...

Don’t agree. While most certainly it is easier through dinner talk, it is not impossible to generate ideas/ whole research projects online. For me, it is a question of need... and it has worked. So maybe an attitude change of ruling out that possibility from the onset might help?
