About Warren: deeply sad. She was the candidate of ideas, the best hope we had of getting a strongly progressive agenda actually enacted. Plus enormous energy and personal charm. What happened? Well, sexism was a big deal, probably the most important thing 1/

But she also made one huge strategic mistake: she thought she could win over the Bernie crowd by going for Medicare for All. This was a break with her previous accumulation of medium-sized plans, and opened her for attack 2/

And it didn't win over the Bernistas anyway, because they're only partly about progressive policy; they want someone who channels their sense of grievance. Warren wasn't their type precisely because of the thoughtfulness that attracted her supporters 3/

And in the end they won't get Sanders either, unless something very strange happens. Among other things, a lot of Warren supporters have come to really dislike Sanders and the people around him. And even if all of them went Bernie, it wouldn't be remotely enough 4/

The only way grievance progressivism could have prevailed was against a fractured field. And the field has unfractured with incredible speed 5/

But progressives shouldn't despair. In many ways they've won the war of ideas. Subject of next tweetstorm 6/

Yes, I believe in the progressive ideas Warren talked about minus the grievance war of the Bernie mantra. Thank you Elizabeth Warren! 💙

Yes. Biden needs her as VP to bring progressive ideas to his campaign, but not the revolution Bizarre Bernie wants. She could get women Moderates, younger people and women out to vote,

Presidents do not turn Plans into Law. Senators do. (Though the patriarchal brainwash means we always think there must be a great man). Warren can be LBJ without being President.

Progressives will despair if Biden is the nominee. This isn't theoretical. We want: healthcare, free public education, labor at the table & climate action. We don't want to: protect credit card companies, continue ineffective tough on crime bs, continue endless war, cuts to SS...

I won't despair. Warren won't despair. Sanders won't despair. We'll keep fighting, pushing Biden and the country in the direction it wants to go. Biden can be forced to go toward your "wants," and he can be forced to correct his past mistakes. If we persist.

Progressives have won the war of ideas- but we have to convince people that we, as individuals and as a movement, can be trusted with power. Voters do not trust Sanders and his grievance movement to actually govern. Warren, and progressives like her, are the future.
