For those of us who genuinely care about all human beings, the message of social democracy needs to be repeated, repeated, and repeated until the populous finally get it. We (the new socialists) are not coming to steal your property, rather to protect it.

Capitalism is very bad and getting worse for the working people. Thank you for saying this, Paul. Housing prices going up and up due to the market where wealthy people buy up multiple houses and working people can't afford anything livable and decent anymore, we get the scraps.

It is not solely monopsony. I am a carpenter and there are 20 different businesses i could work for but the general wage rate is the same and it's not high enough to account for the very high housing prices. Berkshire County may be a special case, but most housing is too pricey.

Lower taxes increase the velocity of income pursuit, requiring ever more regulation to keep in line. A diminishing rate of financial return enforced by progressive taxation stimulates pursuit of other values.

Not so sure about that. Even if income is taxed or wealth is taxed, people still pursue it. It would take a pretty high rate to stop people pursuing wealth. Do you have some real world empirical observation on this Tim?

Anecdotally, I have a sense that people were less corrupt, more civic minded, more family and church oriented in the 50's when top tax rates were 90%. What would you do for $20M that you wouldn't do for $200K? Perhaps something that shouldn't be done.

Yes and what would somebody do it for $200,000 that they wouldn’t do for $45,000? It operates at every level. By the way that 90% tax rate was only marginal above a certain amount, doesn’t make sense to me. Rather text wealth itself.

For $200K, I will work longer hours, get a college degree, relocate to a strange city, etc. What more can I do for $20M? Ruin my health with steroids, close the factory my neighbors depend on, pollute the river, break the law

I wouldn’t do any of those things, but maybe that’s why I’m working seven days a week just to survive.

"But the advocates of unrestricted corporate power and minimal worker protection have been getting away for far too long with pretending that they’re the defenders of freedom – which is not, in fact, just another word for nothing left to lose." Yes, thank you for writing this.

The real difference between FL and NY is cost of housing. In NYC only 25% of the population can afford a house. FL has warm weather and cheap housing. FL is gaining population was NY is losing population. The Socialist idea of Rent Control should come back to NYC to fix this.
