Today I and the 8 yo son of a friend played football (soccer) against my friend and my 8 yo son. It worked really well.

Some 8 yos (naming no names) don't like to pass, but they do if an adult teammate tells them to.

When they see the way good through passes blow open the game, it's like a conversion experience.

Played a game recently where we made a rule you were only allowed 2 touches before you had to pass it. Everyone played so much better.

As kids the classic setup when playing with far more skilled players was that you could only score goals by shot/header directly from pass
