It relies on a database that is copyright, so you cannot write software that uses it without a license.
Ok, that's out. Someone should make an open source version. Seems like a project an undergrad could build.

Fail to see how the concept is copyrightable or patentable. Databases have limited protection in US.

A database of public facts is different. This is a proprietary algorithm and mapping (numbers to words i guess)
