When our 8 yo was 5, I used to make up bedtime stories for him. When I try that with our 5 yo, he takes over and starts telling it himself.

Unfortunately 8 yo and 5 yo disagree about the value of 5 yo's edits, so when I'm telling them both a story I now have to read them books.

The 8 yo picks the books on even days and the 5 yo on odd ones. (The 8 yo, who is good at math, is annoyed he gets slightly fewer picks.)
