Simply not true. Uber succeeds by exploiting its drivers so it can afford to undercut its competitors, and by bamboozling the public.
-
Traditional taxi companies in Norway (where Uber is illegal) have ordering and tracking apps, precomputed and prepaid fares, etc.
-
I'm not claiming Uber's features only work for Uber. Of course they also work when copied sufficiently well by another organization.
-
Addison Lee were doing similar model in London long before Uber, but safely. I'm sure there will be more safe competition coming through.

Uber succeeds because it's cheaper than a cab.
-
Right, but the point of this conversation is why is it cheaper? To what extent is it cos they flout good regulations & abuse/trick drivers?

If that were the point why would Uber cheat as much as possible? Are they just stupid? (Though maybe you're right and they are stupid.)

Without breaking the law, one could argue it might not have been so successful. Poor example of a startup given its ethics.

Lyft has similar service, but Uber much bigger, because screwing drivers & the law is their MO.
