To explain the latter, you need something else. E.g. automatically attacking anything powerful. Or something more subtle.
It would be a shame if it were as dumb as the former. But Occam's Razor plus my experience with journalists makes me worry it is.

The Press sees silicon valley as its natural enemy because we have destroyed their business models and monopolies. Many lost their jobs.

This is the reason for the negative reporting. For example, there is much more sexism in in Finance, Insurance, Real Estate. And more power.
