Did you actually *believe* that Silicon Valley was better than this? You -- the author of How to Disagree? http://www.paulgraham.com/disagree.html

It used to be. When I moved to SV in 2006, one of the things I liked about it was that it was so apolitical compared to Cambridge.
-
So, in 11 years, how did SV turn into ... whatever it is now? And why did it?
-
I'm not sure. Maybe Twitter. Maybe the center of gravity shifting to SF. Maybe its success making it a target. Maybe all those.
-
Maybe it's when Facebook started pretending they were saving the world instead of just saying they're a media company that connects friends?

Paul this is a very poorly done analysis. Why are you sharing this? Do you agree with the fired googler?
-
The question is should he have been fired?
-
Of course he should have been fired. He created a textbook toxic work environment and opened up Google to legit discrimination lawsuits
-
What if he has these legit questions? Why can't these be debated?
-
Of course they can be debated! But that is not the issue here. Asking "why are there anti-discrimination laws?" and asking to have a...
-
discussion about it is one thing. Writing a 10-page manifesto arguing that women and minorities are biologically unsuitable for CS...
-
is not the same thing.
-
(Note that he also called for Google to end their diversity programs)

Great conversation that needs to be had. Too bad the guy who started it was fired. If Sandberg has courage of convictions, she'll hire him!
-
So he can create a toxic environment at FB like he did Google?? Sure thing
-
He created the toxic environment? Or he reacted to it?
-
Just stop. I have no interest in re-litigating debates about equality that were fought over decades ago. You are in no way being thoughtful
-
Why reply to me then? If you don't want a discussion, don't tweet. Simple.

Google has now admitted that they think non-progressive-orthodox thought should be censored. Seems worrying for a search monopoly.

It isn't about the poorly made points. It's about creating a toxic atmosphere in the midst of Google facing a gender discrimination lawsuit.
