Here's how to explain to people the distinction between fighting poverty and fighting economic inequality.
-
-
Otherwise Larry's going to mess up your numbers big time.
-
Straw man? No part of the political spectrum has felt the need to say that. Reducing inequality is not equivalent to strict equality.
-
People who say economic inequality is bad and should be decreased don't realize they're saying this, but they are. Which is my point.
-
What does "this" refer to? People don't realise they're tacitly suggesting stopping founders as a method, or they're arguing for equality?
-
The former.
-
While it is logically "true" that stopping (some) founders would reduce inequality, in no way does that mean people are advocating for it.
-
It is also logically "true" that I could remove someone's arms in order to reduce BMI. Logically correct but you see where this is going..?
-
Just drop the mic and walk away dude...

paul, i'm gonna refer you to my longform response to your iteration of this thought in january 2016:https://cryoshon.co/2016/01/02/a-response-to-paul-grahams-article-on-income-inequality/ …
-
the bottom line: fighting inequality the right way INCREASES the number of googles that get founded. larry himself is poorer but one of many
-
put differently: for poverty to end, so must excessive wealth

From a macro perspective economic inequality stems from the fact that America was founded on EXPLICIT economic EXCLUSION ->
-
that exclusion for 300+ years gave a head start to a specific group of Americans. EI today = add other people to ur success plans
-
so start google and whatever company but bring everyone (those that do not look like you) with you to the top

Just remember: historically, economic inequality isn't corrected by the market - it's corrected by the mobs & the guillotines.

Why can't it be "Larry start Google but you'll pay 90% of $ past a few hundred million?" No founders taking that deal in your view?
-
Hell, it doesn't even need to be as egregious as 90%, but definitely more than where it's at now.
-
Their wealth is in google stock. Are you advocating high cap gains taxes or handing over their ownership in google?
-
Tricky question since higher cap gains would only apply when they sell; forcing them to turn over part of holdings to gov would be skeevy.
