Some journalists do a decent job of resisting being pulled right or left, but few avoid being pulled toward shallowness.

Comes down to business model (ad funded) x reader preferences. Shallow pieces get more page views (and thus revenue) than deeper ones.

The 'shallow piece' that PG is hinting at is probably the Sam Altman vs Pando fight. Pando is mostly funded by subscriptions.
