I wonder if, as the biological basis of intelligence becomes better understood, it will start to seem wrong to call people stupid.

Right now, the most self-consciously virtuous people have no problem calling e.g. Trump dumb or stupid.

But I can easily imagine our descendants 100 years from now wincing at our shocking unPCness in using such words.

well there's stupid, then there's the causality of stupid. Wrong ethically either way, but the wiring is the wiring.

I can tell you first hand that in the insect community, "invertabrates" is still considered a *huge* insult to some.

We use such a small portion of our brains we can hardly defer to Biology. I would bet on study of mindfulness, self control expression of IQ

If intelligence is purely driven by genetic, environmental factors not within one's control. Otherwise, partly to blame for one's stupidity.

I suspect calling someone stupid will be like calling someone fat. For some it will be mean, for others it might spur a behaviour change.

Not a good idea. Some kids are born with Downs Syndrome, are bullied and called 'retarded'. This can lead to depression and suicide

Its not a good idea. How would you like it if your son has downs syndrome, people called him retarded his whole life and he commits suicide

It seems wrong now. We only know to measure intelligence in certain areas. Stupid could be brilliant in different dimensions.

If you can't call one person stupid does that not make it hard to call another smart? Or are you saying that since IQ is genetic it's mean?
