The Tesla Model S was like the iPhone in that all other manufacturers now have to copy it. The difference is many don't realize that yet.

There's no analog to Android in this situation. That gives Tesla an advantage that Apple didn't have.

It's possible to imagine a future in which few other car manufacturers survive. Not saying that will happen, but remarkable it's possible.

I don’t know any manufacturer who thinks they don’t have to switch to all electric drive. Only question is how quickly.

A teslamorphic car isn't just electric though. There's also the software. That will be even harder for them.

I think Tesla not surviving is much more likely than other manufacturers surviving.

assuming other car manufacturers can't create a better car than Tesla. + After automation & end of ownership will car brand really matter?

I don't take one man's word for there can be some better way. Perhaps a fuel that don't produce Co2 and is not electricity.

Instead of focusing on Tesla 's strategy. Gasoline manufacturers could develop some other tech. Or even filters.

Also possible to imagine a future where millions of cars are subject to ransomware. Security will decide who is the winner.

I read somewhere 95% of the time cars are parked - so in the future we may only need 1 car for every 20 we now need

But aren't most cars in any time zone essentially parked at more or less the same time? Why should MaaS change that?

Good point. But what I was thinking is that car manufactures might not need to build so many cars per person in the future

Pending huge change in work patterns, reduction in car numbers may be less than forecast. Plus MaaS cars make 2 journeys for every one today
