Curious pattern: far-right trolls use reply, and far-left trolls use retweet with comment.

Is virtue signaling a bigger part of the far-left trolls' motivation? Or do the far-right trolls just not know about retweet with comment?

Or far right trolls are a bit ashamed of their comments / afraid they could reflect badly on them. Or, they have no followers anyway

The latter could be a factor. On the whole they seem newer to Twitter.

maybe the far left doesn't care to engage in dialogue that they feel wont go anywhere

Judging from the sort of things the far-right trolls say to me, they seem even less interested in engaging in dialogue.

alt-left is far more concerned with virtue signalling as far as I've seen.

Nerd trope. If there’s an “alt-right” surely there must be an “alt-left”. No, not how it works.

I do that all the time. Sometimes, I’d rather have a conversation ABOUT something than WITH something.

“Virtue signal” is a term mostly used to express discomfort with what other people are talking about. Itself: not especially useful term.

It's a useful term to indicate when someone's declaring they are Right and you are Wrong, AKA, they are not interested in discussion

“Virtue signaling” literally means they’re doing that in bad faith: they hold their beliefs only to accumulate social capital.

It’s a shitty thing to say about people, most especially if you say it casually.

Retweet with comment breaks visibility to the public via your tweet, so if they are really "trolling" they are doing it wrong.

left want to show all their buddies how they found a "stupid person", right just wants to make the left person realize how stupid they are

A simpler expl is the left never needs to engage the right, since they own culture; whereas right is forced to engage, breeds said style.
