It was a crisis when the rich fled cities. Now it's a crisis they're moving back. Anything besides stasis is crisis, apparently.

Maybe you should think about those two events a bit more deeply? It's not like they even happen in the same cities...

What? The cities where people gripe about gentrification now, like NYC and SF, were exactly the ones abandoned in the 70s.

Did the rich actually leave NYC? The crisis is when it happens on a large scale like in Detroit, and the city hollows out

I recommend you learn more about what it was like in NYC in say 1975.

The problem is that our poor are so vulnerable, both changes are hard on them

Sure, but if there's nothing more to this than "all change is hard on the poor," it's intellectually dishonest to attack gentrification.

Largely agree. Ideal is to help the poor improve their situations and expand their options when gentrification happens

Maybe crisis has more to do with how the poor (who are often minorities) are being stampede — you know, like how startups/tech treat them

i think problems are often other problems in disguise. maybe the real problem: why has society failed to find solutions for the displaced?
