One thing that struck me about Norway was that no one seemed either arrogant or subservient. Made me realize how many in the US do.

This is a direct result of sensible tax and employment laws which lead to greater equality and job security. You should support such laws.
I suspect it's more due to cultural differences than different laws.

If I don't have job security, I will tend to be subservient. If you earn 100 times as much as me you will tend to be arrogant towards me
