The business world exhibits evolution: People imperfectly copy traits from other surviving companies. Inexperience = higher mutation rate.

Like in biological contexts, a high mutation rate is advantageous in rapidly changing environments, but deleterious in stable environments.
-
Also like in biological contexts, high mutation rate results in a lot of dead mutants. Species benefits, but the individual has worse odds.
-
Good point. It might be that founder inexperience is correlated with both huge successes and utter failures.

this is kind of that I'm trying to achieve with code: introduce deviations from my rules, in order to stumble upon better results.
-
Basically you're building the "random mutation" part of a genetic algorithm.
-
to some extent, yes.
-
but in a genetic algorithm you tend to mutate the (encoded) data. whereas i'm mutating a different abstraction atm.
-
You're mutating the source code, I take it. Will you make an effort to ensure that all 'submitted' mutations are syntactically valid?
-
i'm mutating the "alterations" http://inconvergent.net/snek-is-not-an-acronym/ …, and the reduction step ensures the result is valid.

This sort of thing is why I stopped following you. Only saw it in a retweet. Stop with the fake koans for the love of god.

@vkhosla without experience and analysis, intuition equals superstition. Good luck with that.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

This is one reason I try to tackle problems without learning about other attempts first. Learn after I've come up with my own solution.
