I have a hard time believing that people who read the worst into everything and try to be offended accomplish anything of value.
I think it has near zero positive effect. It may have a slight negative effect by demoralizing its targets. But it never teaches anything.

Agree on all counts, though I definitely know people who just get more motivated by criticism. Call it "The Contrarian Hulk" syndrome.
