I think the part that should've been highlighted was the "common sense regulation in short-term rentals".
-
-
-
I also found that part sinister: the way they're going to pitch the regulations as common sense, when in fact they're from lobbyists.
-
Most regulations originate from some party lobbying their own interest. That doesn't make it inherently evil or sinister.

Decentralized identity will take the ball away from cronies. Without a centralized interdiction point, they'll have to target each homeowner

Why is it that Facebook can authenticate my identity but I can't authenticate myself?

@timoreilly as someone who lived next to “professional” airbnbs which drove rents crazy high, I support the hotel lobby in this! - 1 more reply

When booking apps promote owners skipping local regs they are rightly vulnerable to this line of attack. Comply with local laws or go under.
-
You are missing the point lobbying is for adding regs to protect hotels, not merely enforcing existing rules.
-
I understand your point, but the reason the lobbying is effective is because of the business model in place. Very vulnerable to new laws.
-
so are most businesses, United/Delta/American want govt to limit US flights by Emirates, Etihad, Qatar - limit consumer choice/raise price.
-
Not apples to apples. Booking apps gain advantage by not operating under all applicable laws. This invites overreach by estab competition.
-
and WHY is there something wrong with me letting someone use my home and getting paid subject to existing disturbance rules etc? 2/
-
I agree, but far too many are full-time properties flouting zoning, occupancy, licensing and taxes. Not mom-&-pop weekend rentals.
