I am an MBA and I started Stratechery as a side project while at Microsoft.https://twitter.com/paulg/status/852462627636772864 …

One reason there are so few really big startups founded by MBAs is that MBAs don't do side projects.

I guess it's not "really big" enough ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I can tell you this: plenty of folks in startup land were damn sure I would fail though.

Oh, and by the way, multiple YCombinator startups refused to even give me an interview. Their loss.

I can criticize MBAs with the best of them. Blanket statements really piss me off though.

"Blanket statement" is just a pejorative word for generalization, which all insights consist of.

And, were one to generalize, all startups are failures. I prefer to remember there are exceptions.

The fact that all insights are generalizations doesn't mean all generalizations are insights.

I see what you did there. But there is in fact an interesting and important pattern in startup origins.

And by turning the conversation into an angry meta one about generalizations, you've Gresham's-lawed it into the background.

age + debt, etc. reduce the likelihood of side projects. It’s emergent to MBAs, not a result of the education.
