One place where it's ok to use complicated solutions though is in choosing which problem to solve.

I always thought it was more that people looked for complicated solutions because it allowed them to avoid confronting their failure.

I think it's more because simple is hard, complex is easy and has the psychosomatic benefit of feeling like it must work
