It was because Yahoo needed an answer to "What is your broadband strategy?"

IIRC there was some worry that increased bandwidth would make Yahoo obsolete.

I don't know if people at Yahoo actually worried about that, or if they had to do something because analysts did.

to be fair, they kept the team and used the broadcast technology for over a decade. bebo was truly worthless to aol.

virtually all of their produced video content went through the platform, so yes. I'm sure it didn't pay for the acq. though
