My 8 year old son too. Part of me feels like I need to put the brakes on a little so he gets sleep but I just can't do it.

One of greatest hopes has always been that he would love to read as much as I do, and I don't want to squelch that in any way.

We tell him he shouldn't stay up too late, but we don't enforce that very hard.

what do you think fostered that? Seeing you always reading? Reading to him? Both? This was me as a kid & my dad was always in a book

At the moment it's simply that the books have in them stuff that he really wants to know.

why not another medium then? YouTube and Google have much more information and they're on demand too.
