I don't mind being stopped by the police if it's a matter of "we were chasing a guy and he came this way".

I absolutely agree that stopping people arbitrarily and demanding papers is bad; but this doesn't seem to be such a case.

is that ok? In Australia we typically would have to have broken a law or be suspected of having done so for ID to be requested.
