in my youth, these were called Sugar Smacks...this and several other cereals took sugar out of the name, but not out of the box.

It boggles the mind that we allow this to be marketed to children.

Apple Jacks and Honey Smacks both have the #1 ingredient as sugar. Wheat isn't found until all the way at #2.

Seems like any "by weight" metric would intrinsically make puffed cereals (which are mostly air by volume) score very badly.

By weight is the right way to compare.

That's not a good measurement for things that contain trapped air. (Compare 500g of whipped cream to 500g of cream!)

Yes it is. You compare weight of sugar to weight of cereal, it doesn't matter if it's puffed or not.

When you serve yourself cereal, do you measure it out on a scale, or do you pour what fits in a bowl?

How does that compare to a bowl of white rice by volume? (Seriously, bet the white rice is more at risk for T2-diabetes)
