Boom's supersonic airliner is going to be 30% more efficient than the Concorde: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJkM-ykKRxg …

fuel efficiency and sonic booms, though https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oklahoma_City_sonic_boom_tests …
-
both execution problems not intrinsic to speed. Grounding to remember that non digital problems can be decades long
-
are turbofans inherently more efficient that turbojets? Are smaller aircraft inherently less efficient?
-
Bigger fans better at lower speed, less at higher speed. Mach 2.2 works with goldilocks fan
-
variable/adaptive engines improve efficiency at wide range of speeds. But still 'in the lab', not MVP

Moore's law is an IT-only phenomenon, a fact forgotten by those expecting geometric growth out of hardware companies

Not to denigrate the Boom team, but you seem to be assuming that what they're doing is the best possible today?

@paulg - haven't been flexing the supersonic commercial travel one for a long time.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

scale effects make a smaller aircraft harder. Could do more than 30% at 100 pax. But Concorde is really really impressive

Is the speed worth the cost? esp considering the efficiency gains in subsonic airliners in same period are significantly greater?
-
it's not about speed, it's about time, different people value their time differently
-
I get that, but is it worth it for the airline/operators? What’s the profit in it vs. subsonic private jet or such 1st Flight
-
30% improvement it's a really good deal in the airline industrypic.twitter.com/PzLlMSc8OU
-
that's my point. It's only 30% more efficient than Concorde was. An A320 is 5x more fuel efficient than Concorde per passenger

yes, this makes me bearish on boom. Also long air travel = short VR

well, people went to the Moon with '60s tech, something we still haven't been able to replicate, so....
