Possibly. But I don't struggle to understand how Jack can be so outwardly progressive and yet Twitter users aren't.

At an interpersonal level, I agree. But at a leadership level, responsible for community, many(?) find it equally confusing

No one who's run a sufficiently popular site with open signups would be confused.

I do think though that both Twitter and HN are early versions lacking critical features to contain trolls.

I suspect both will eventually get replaced. Either that or people will learn not to use them, as happened with smoking.
