So if Sam's not firing Peter Thiel is the high bit of his reputation for you, you prize orthodoxy over actions.

"firing" is a completely false equivalency.

It's the word YC uses internally. Do you really think *this* is the crux of the issue, morally?

surely Thiel is an advisor, not an employee to be fired. Nike sometimes distances itself from certain athletes based on behavior.

Being an employee gives you legal protections against being fired, but surely that's separate from the moral question.

It gives you moral protections, too.

So would it be ok for a group of *peers* like university faculty to fire one who supported the wrong candidate?
