Hey @paulg, has Thiel now invested more in a Trump presidency than YC companies?http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/16/technology/peter-thiel-donald-j-trump.html?_r=0 …

No. Being a "supporter" is entirely different from being a surrogate, keynote speaker, huge money donor. Also: Not an employee.
-
Would you fire an employee who donated a lot of money to Trump and spoke at the convention?
-
Thiel is not your employee. He's your billionaire business partner.
-
An employee is the closest thing to what a part-time partner is. So stop splitting hairs to evade the question. Would you?
-
Yes I would fire Peter Thiel if he was my employee

-
Although Thiel would already have been on a Performance Improvement Plan for his legal wars against the press. So easy move

Disassociating with a billionaire Trump surrogate as a biz partner has very little to do with employee-employer relationship.
-
AFAIK legal consqnces of firing an employee based on political belief. Is the same true for YC to move on without Thiel?
-
Of course because it doesn't make any sense.

Plenty of companies require pre-clearance for employee political involvment.
-
See: all of Wall Street.
-
If Thiel can't be managed on an employee basis, then he's a partner. And if he's a partner, YC can choose not to work /w him.
-
Ultimately, this isn't a legal issue -- it's a moral one. Stand up and be counted or stop complaining about Trump,
